This is Hamilton

"I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight. And when our children tell our story, they’ll tell the story of tonight." - Hamilton, "The Story of Tonight"

You may not know much about Alexander Hamilton now, but Lin-Manuel Miranda’s masterpiece offers a thorough education. And if you are a historian devoted to America’s founding, you will rediscover your curious spark as the events surrounding Hamilton’s role in America’s history come to life before your eyes.

Since its first Broadway appearance in 2015, Hamilton has achieved unprecedented box office success and notoriety for its diverse casting and award-winning soundtrack, incorporating pop, soul, R&B, rap, and show tunes. With 16 Tony nominations (another record), 11 Tony wins, the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Hamilton continues its nationwide tour right here in DC, and you can go.

Take a Tour of the Kennedy Center

kennedy center tours

President John F. Kennedy had a mission: make the performing arts accessible to all. With this objective at the forefront, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts over three million visitors every year, offering free tours of the facility and sharing the values JFK championed and the purpose of this cultural hub.

Friends of the Kennedy Center volunteers guide the tours, which are offered daily at no cost, and educate visitors on the events that led up to the establishment of a national cultural center. Visitors also learn about the life, presidency, and legacy of John F. Kennedy - and all the incredible sights found within the Kennedy Center itself.

For example, the 3,700 tons of marble that hail from Carrara, Italy and line the walls of the Hall of Nations will leave you awestruck. The three grand performance halls prompt stunned silence, and when the tour concludes with a 360-degree rooftop view of Washington, DC, you’ll realize why so many recommend this free tour - it’s worth every second.
